Online Return Policy

Textbooks and course materials have their own unique return policy, listed below.

Customers can return general merchandise purchased from University Book Store for a refund within 30 days of purchase with receipt as long as the products are still in saleable condition. All mask sales are final.

Without a receipt, items can be returned for store credit only, at the discretion of department supervisors. Purchases made with a credit voucher or gift card can only be returned for store credit.

If an item in your order is unavailable, and you would prefer that we cancel your order rather than partially fulfill it, please let us know if the Customer Checkout Notes section of your order.

Clearance and seasonal apparel items are subject to the same 30 day return window, but may be exchanged only. Clearance and seasonal merchandise (cups, candles, etc...) are final sale.

All refunds are processed on the same day and funds will be posted back to your bank account between 3–5 business days, depending on your bank.

Please note that we do not have a direct exchange process in place for exchanges by mail or through our curbside pickup (though we are developing a process).

  • In-store: Customers can return items during business hours at our Customer Service counter, located on the second floor of our U District store.

  • Curbside Pickup & Contactless Returns: Customers can return items at our curbside pickup window from 9–5, every day. All refunds received through our curbside pickup are processed same day.

    Customers who wish to make an exchange through our curbside pickup window will need to place a new order for the desired item and can pick up the new item when the original is returned.

  • Returns & Exchanges by Mail: Return shipping is at-cost to customer. Please package your items in original condition with your completed Customer Return Form (this is attached to the shipping label of your order) in a sturdy box that includes your receipt and customer return form, addressed to:

    If you don’t have your customer return form, please include a note that displays your name and your order number (this begins with SO and be followed by a series of digits. You can find this in your email receipt).

    For exchanges by mail, please include a note on your customer return form about what item, color, or size you would like to exchange for. If a customer wishes to exchange for an item of greater value, please include your contact information so we can contact you and charge you the difference. If a customer is exchanging for an item of lesser value, the difference will be refunded to the original payment method. Once your return has been received, we will send out the exchanged item provided we still have the item in stock.

During the exchange process, you may receive a credit memo from us. This is simply a receipt acknowledging your return and means that our team is processing your exchange.

Receipts are required for all refunds. Course materials must be in purchased condition for a full refund. Un-activated eBooks and rental fees are refundable under the same timelines as course materials purchases.

If you drop/withdraw from a class you can return your book within 14 days after the start of classes (full term courses only). A Proof of drop/withdrawal is required at the time of return. This excludes Rented Course Materials.

Our goal is to ensure that all students have access to course materials in a timely manner so we're unable to make exceptions to these return periods.

  • Fall:
    • Physical Textbooks: Wednesday, October 14
    • Digital: Wednesday, October 7

Digital items can be returned for a full refund within 7 days of the start of classes.

If you drop/withdraw from a class, you can return your eBook within 14 days after the start of classes (full term courses only). A Proof of drop/withdrawal is required at the time of return.

To return your digital textbooks, please email txtsupport@ubookstore.com with the order number in your email (this begins with SO and is followed by a string of numbers).

Course materials purchased for the current quarter must be returned via contactless drop-off in the U District or by mail within the above refund deadlines.

  1. Complete the Customer Return Form (this is attached to the shipping label of your order).
  2. Bring the items you wish to return in their original condition, including any tags or stickers, along with your completed Customer Return Form and receipt to either Curbside Pickup or Customer Service counter (located on the second floor) at the U District location. You can find this in your email receipt). A physical or printed digital receipt is still required.
  3. Course materials must be in purchased condition for a full refund. Un-activated eBooks and rental fees are refundable under the same timelines as course materials purchases.

Return shipping is at-cost to customer and must be post-marked by the term’s refund deadline in order to qualify for a refund.

Return service is available at UW Bothell on The Plaza on October 2 and 7, between 11am–3pm and at University Book Store Tacoma on October 5 and 9, between 11m–3pm. Please note that these will be for return service only. Contactless returns are available every day in the U District from 9am–5pm.

If you need to return or exchange a textbook, please place a new order for the updated items before your return has been processed in order to ensure your textbooks arrive in time for classes.

Please note that return shipping is at-cost to customer; when shipping books, we encourage customers to use media mail for best rates.

We are unable to accept any textbook sellback through shipping or our contactless drop-off.

  • I received the wrong item(s): We’re sorry! We want to get you the correct item(s) as soon as possible. Please have your order number and contact our Web Order Team directly.
  • My order never came in the mail: If you believe that the shipping courier has misplaced your order, please contact our Shipping Department at 800-335-7323, ext. 324. They will contact the courier for a call tag to track down your order. All orders that returned to sender will be refunded, minus the shipping fee. You will be notified by email if this occurs.
  • I never picked up my order: We hold orders for pickup for 30 days from the day it was processed. All orders not picked up in 30 days will be returned to stock. Refunds on orders not picked up are at the discretion of department supervisors.
